In latin, pesco means fish, and they don't eat any other meat but fish.

Re: Pesco vegitarian

I'm a bit curious about what prompts the question. So, the starting point is some "label" (pesco-vegetarian, in this case), and seeing how that can be stretched? If someone wants to eat chicken, why don't they just eat chicken? So, rather than being a pesco-vegetarian, one would be a pollo-pesco-vegetarian.

No. A pesco vegetarian can eat only fish (which is technically not meat) but NO meat.

However, many in the veggie community consider pesco-veggie a paradox in that you can't be a vegetarian AND eat fish!!! They think if you eat a living creature then you CAN'T be a vegetarian.

I don't think labels matter in how you judge yourself but I think there DEFINATELY need to be guidelines in society with restaurants, prepared food etc.

To many restaurant staff, vegetarians simply don't lilke meat and will just eat around it when in reality having meat in our food is tandamount to cooking and serving food with cochroaches in it.

When friends or restaurant people say things like "oh, but you can just pick the chicken off and not eat it" and I say, "if there were a handful of roaches sprinkled on your pizza or in your pasta, would you pick them off and eat the rest of the food?" Its is then that they realize that veggies don't not only eat meat but food that has meat juice in it or been prepared NEAR meat. If you cut meat and then you cut my vegetables, then the vegetable is NO LONGER vegetarian.

Just curious, are you thinking about becoming a veggie??

I think anyone who eats predominantly vegetables is a vegetarian..chicken or otherwise. This also goes for people who eat mostly pasta and call themselves vegetarians just because they don't eat meat.

Re: Pesco vegitarian

vegetarians don't eat meat. meat is animals. chickens are animals as much as cows are. so...

fish are animals, too. but if you eat no other meat, i'd probably say "eat fish but am otherwise vegetarian"...

just my $.02
