Alcohol...how bad is it?

Of course when trying to diet you are supposed to cut back on alcohol...but here is my question. How does it exactly hurt your body/diet process? If you just leave room for it in your daily calorie count then how does it hurt you? Say you are eating 1800 a day (in addition to exercise) and you eat 1500 one day leaving room for a few glasses of wine at night...as long as you are at or under 1800 isn't that ok? Or does alcohol prevent fat burning or something? I've just been getting confused reading about whats ok and what isn't.

Thanks alot.

Alcohol isn't bad for you unless the extra calories contribute to weight gain or alcoholism ruins your health and wealth.

A "couple" glasses of wine is healthy, a "few" less so...and "a "lot" might be starting to do damage to the liver, brain and heart over a long period.

I'm sure 300 calories of wine every day of your life will yield more benefit than damage.

I agree with what Lenin had to say. However, personally, when I have just a few drinks, my ability to make the wisest decisions about food goes down the drain. That is where the problem is for me concerning too many calories. Fortunately I don't drink every day - only once or twice a month.

Yeah, I dont think the alcohol itself is my problem. It's the urge to eat 2 pizzas afterwards that gets me I think crazy mixed drinks with juices and sugars is where it might pose a problem, but wine itself has many benefits.

I don't think its JUST the calories - from the sugar - but the strain it puts on your organs. Apparently the body can tolerate and process one or two but its the binge drinking that ruins your organs.

But health experts do say that IF your diet is really good and you drink a glass or red wine per day that it will be good for you. Although eating crap all the time and then drinking wine will make your health worse.

Re: Alcohol...how bad is it?

With me the problem with the two glasses of wine isn't a problem; it's the 4 that follow it and the 3 martinis after THAT!
