Need an alternative to milk??

If you like dairy - especially milk - but don't like the health risks try Kefir instead.

Its a milk based drink that has been fermented with these weird little grain type things. It creates a wonderful thick milk/yogurt-like drink with a bit of sweet, a bit of tang and a bit of effervesence!!

It's suposed to do wonders for your intestine - has LOTS of friendly bacteria - and part of the fermentation somehow minimizes the lactose so that it can be tolerated by those who are lactose intolerant.

Dr. Perricone (skin doctor) and other health experts recommend it.

Just wanted to let you guys know about it. You can buy it from your healthfood store in the milk section. The best brand is Helios. You could also make it yourself at home with Kefir grains - but I'm not quite sure yet where you can get them.

Sorry if I sound like an infommercial!!

Re: Need an alternative to milk??

I like almond milk. But I find all "milks" make me stuffy-headed, even if they're not dairy-based. I think it's the coldness!! I usually avoid cold foods.

I paid $4.09 for a 32oz bottle. Its in a white plastic bottle. Yes, it was in the refrigerator.

You can make kefir with soy milk too!! You put some of these grains in them and leave it to for a couple of days. I've yet to try this but Ive seen articles on it.

Re: Need an alternative to milk??

White Wave (makers of Silk soymilk) have a great new product called Silk Live, which is a soy-yogurt drink with active cultures (acidophilus...) but no dairy!

Flavors: Mango, Peach, Raspberry, and Strawberry.

They're _really_ good and I'd think quite similar in taste/texture to kefir, but dairy-free.
