Salad?

I really like salads but realize, depending on what is in them, they can be just as bad as eating pizza. So I was wondering what is a healthy type of dressing? Or even just want brand has healthy dressings in general? Also what are some good things to put in the salad? I was thinking of putting carrots, almonds, dried cranberries, maybe mandarine oranges??? I never really make salad on my own so I am open for any suggestions...Thanks.

Steph

Re: Salad?

why dont you go to the market and look at the labels?

seethrough dressings are normally healthier

Re: Salad?

By far, my favorite salad is grilled chicken with lots of Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, scallions, any color bell pepper(s), cucumbers, etc. Just add whatever fresh veggies you like. For dressing, I just drizzle a little olive oil with some balsamic vinegar and maybe a little lemon juice, salt and pepper. Yummy! They best thing about a dressing like this is that you actually get to taste the salad ingredients instead of just the dressing.
I also like baby spinach leaves with cranberries and almond slivers. A good dressing for this is a 1-2 tbsp orange juice, 1/2 tbsp olive oil, and balsamic vinegar to taste. Also good with tomatoes, but I like tomatoes on just about anything.

Re: Salad?

Try "Annie's Natural" dressings. I like the ranch, and it's all natural and even gluten free! Lately, I've been using olive oil and vinegar with salt, but I like to use ANnies for a little change. YOu can buy this at WHole Foods or your local heath food store.

Re: Salad?

Make your own. I just use a little olive oil, vinegar, agave, mustard and squeeze of lemon.

I personally HATE salad - even though I'm a veggie!! - but when I do eat it I add use mainly baby spinach, cucumber, sprouts, maybe garbonza, beetroot, shredded apple, walnuts.

I'd rather eat a plate of seaweed than lettuce. Urgh, I just can't stand lettuce!! haha.

I also try to use a salad as a base for meal. Like today, i had some tofu and veggies in a thai style lemon and ginger sauce so first I put a handful of spinach on the plate, topped it with the oats (groats) and put the veggies and tofu and sauce on top of that. This way, I get to eat my salad without it being a salad.

When you say veggie, are you pertaining to a vegetarian?
