I've started doing at least half an hour of cardio every other day, and I haven't changed the way I've been eating; so why am I not losing weight? And.. are there any tips or suggestions as to somethings I have to avoid in my diet, and what I should make sure is in my diet...

You figure it like this.....since a half hour of cardio is roughly 150-200 calories and your only doing it 4 times a week. Well say 200 so..... 4x200=800 and you need to burn 3500 calories a week to lose ONE POUND!! So diet is the most important thing when trying to lose weight. So, if you do this for one month, you'll only lose one pound. I know, it sucks.
About three - four weeks.
Every evening when we go.. (as a family...) I burn about 400 calories in total.
How many times a week do you do this? Okay say 4 times.....4x400=1600 calories so you should have lost at least one pound. How do you know your buring that much from walking a half hour? Are you eating more than you used to without realising it? Maybe next week you'll see the scale move to unfortunately only one pound. It may not be EXACTLY a month, so you may need to modify your diet, increase your activity, or just be patient.
I use a treadmill the moniters calories.. how reliable are those?
I think I may have increased what I've been eating, so I'm going to moniter what I eat for a week or so.
Though exercise is important for many reasons, the way to lose noticeable amounts of weight was, is, and always will be calorie restriction. Sad and boring but true.
I think most gym equipment OVERestimates the calories burned by the particular exercise: it makes the machines look good!

Don't monitor calories burned by what your treadmill says. It's garbage and misleading.
Generally - walking burns 4kcals a min. You are doing a 1/2 hr. So thats 120 kcals. Three times a week = 360 kcals. In a months time you've only burned 1440 kcals.
1 lb of fat is 3500 kcals. You've burned just under half a pound of fat. Not very motivational is it? Cardio is important for the cardiovascular system, but it is not where you are going to see drastic, permanent fat loss results.
There are 2 things you need to get in order. First - your nutrition. You've got internet access .. find a place where you can assess and monitor your daily caloric consumption. If you have questions on what to eat, times etc .. ask here. You may drop that by no more than 500 kcals. Then you need to include some form of strength training into your routine if possible - because that is where you are going to see results. 1 hr of strength training can burn (depending on the intensity) 400-500 calories. It also changes the rate at which our resting metabolism works - meaning - our body becomes efficient fat burning machines.
