Yes they can survive but the texture of the yoghurt might not. It's not necessary to go to that extreme because most of the common super market brands (Dannon, Axelrod, Black Cow, Yoplait) in the PLAIN or LOWFAT varaints have plenty of live bacilli...I know I;ve grown them. Don't count on the "candied" ones having much though.
To be sure of a SUPER large supply, why not make your own yoghurt, it's not hard, and it's a LOT cheaper for daily use.
