Orange food

It has been found that eating lots of carrots can cause the skin to temporary turn orange. Do eating lots of oranges or candy with orange flavor have a similar effect over time? Or other dyes such as red, blue, yellow dyes harmful in large quantities?

I have read about people who eat a huge amount of carrots developing a slight orange hue - but I think you have to eat pretty much nothing but carrots for every meal for this to happen!!

Also, regarding the dyes. They're pretty unhealhty to consume; they've been idenified as causes of such things as migraines and childhood ADD amongst other things.

I think that adding dye to food to change the color is the most insidious activity by the food industry.

Eating HUGE amounts of carrots can turn the skin orange because of the beta-carotene which our bodies use to produce vitamin A! I've never heard of anyone turning orange from eating oranges. Maybe because carrots are so cheap and other orange foods such as pumpkins, sweet potatoes, mangoes, apricots, and oranges are too expensive to eat in such quantities that our skins would react from too much beta-carotene. And artificial food dyes are unlikely to turn the skin strange colors (again, maybe beccause we consume insufficient quantities?), although they are certainly doing strange things to our body as it tries to separate out the good nutrition from the artificial stuff.
