I usually have something to eat right before I go to sleep. I am so used to it. I don't like eating too much at a time, I prefer to take several smaller meals over the day. I am often hungry again right before I go to bed.
I usually eat some bread and fruit, or a musli or something.
1. Nobody ever starved 4 hours after dinner
2. I'll be asleep in an hour and will probably sleep BETTER without any new food in my stomach.
3. THe 7 PM meal won't be fully absorbed til probably near dawn
4. I'll feel proud of myself in the morning if I don't eat at 11:00PM
Eating late at night has no effect whatsoever on gaining weight or anything. If, over the course of the day, you ate too much and this is extra food you dont need, then ou would gain weight. But eating RIGHT before bed, or even waking up to have a snack, or eating late at night has no bearing whatsoever. This is a common misconception because people who eat before bed tend to gain weight- because they tend to eat in front of the tv, and instead of controlling portions they'll zone out and eat a bag of cookies. THAT is why people gain weight from night eating, and no other reason than that.
I tend to agree with that due to of personal experience: I am very thin and I usually eat the largest amount of food right before I go to bed.
But it is also true that everybody's metabolism is different. Maybe some people do gain weight easier if they eat late? Maybe has to do something with circadian rhythm or something?
fawn- why can you not sleep through the night? Why do you have to fast for only 8 hrs, no more? Your body will adapt if it doesnt get enough food over the night- you will probably be very hungry in the morning.
As for what to eat- have whatever you'd like. Some sort of dairy is good, like warm milk, because it may help you get back to sleep. Tea (caffeine free, like green tea or herbal tea) with toast is also good, or crackers, etc. An apple and protein is good, some nuts...basically anything you want!
