I have some questions about protien powders/shakes/energy bars. If you eat too much of protien, do you gain weight? What if you eat a lot of protien but dont go over the calorie limit of..lets say 1,200. I'm looking to loose a but of fat on my body. I do tons of cardio and some weight training. I'm thinking of eating tons of protien, by buying shakes, energybars ect. I'll watch out for the carbs and sugar and of course the calorie/fat content, but I'm afraid I'll just gain weight!
As riseboi says, it's the sum total of calories that cause weight gain or weight loss.
Excess protein, like excess fat and excess carbs, can readily be used to create glucose(sugar) for the brain, enrgy to locomote, and fat to glue on our waistlines.
Im fond of getting ENOUGH protein but not TOO much. WHen protein is burned for fuel or stored as fat, the nitrogenous components must be excreted as ammonias and urea products...all of which are somwhat poisonous and hard on several organs, primarily the kidneys. It's also a very expensive way to get fuel.
Thus I think it's a mistake for anyone but avid bodybuilders to go much above 100 grams a day (400 calories) Protein on a regular basis, and I like something in the realm of 60C, 20, 20. I'd LOVE the 10% fat that riseboi recommends but I just CAN'T do it!
Hey thankyou guys! So how many grams should I get? I don't want to turn into a bodybuilder!!! 55 grams? Riseboi, thats what you said? Lenin, I didnt know too much could turn into fat. Thanks for that information.
