Hello everyone!
I just bought raw organic flaxseed because I heard it is so good for you, high in good fats, omega 3's and fiber. Any ideas on how I can put it to use? I was thinking drizzling a few tablespoons over my yogurt or cereal, or maybe mixing some in with my peanut butter. Well let me know what you guys use it on, and I can just eat it raw, right? Thanks!

Yes..Flaxseeds are great for you (flaxseed oil is great too!). I used to buy the seeds but now I'm drinking the oil (tastes nasty but I can bare it). I would just eat mine raw all the time (its harder to eat but I just wanted to get it in my body the quick way).
I think your ideas are a great way to add the Flaxseeds .
I dont have any other ideas for you (maybe on salads)..
You are talking about flaxseed meal (ground flaxseed), right? You really get very little nutrients from using whole seeds.
I used the meal in my protein smoothies, muffins, cereal, meatloaf, hamburgers, etc. I make a hot cereal out of it, either alone or mixing with oatmeal. Sprinkle it yogurt. Mixing it in PB sounds good, I'll have to try that. Mixing into a cookie recipe sounds good.
Flaxseed has a very hard shell. If you use the flaxseed by just sprinkling whole seed on cereal or other food, it will simply pass through your system and you won't get the nutritional benefit (although it does act as a natural laxative).
To obtain the maximum benefit from flaxseed, buy an inexpensive coffee grinder; Grind up a small qty. of flaxseed, enough to last for several days, and store in the refrigerator so it doesn't go rancid.
I sprinkle ground flax seed in my salads. It adds a crunchy and nutty flavor and my bf doesn't even notice (which is key - I mention the word flax and he runs the other way saying "Granola cruncher, granola cruncher!" He's of course teasing, but I like to sneak it in when I can! It's good for his heart!)
Cool! I actually just now bought a cool coffee grinder...only $13.99! It works perfectly grinding the seeds! It's so easy and cool! What are the benefits of including flax in my diet? I know it has Omega 3's, which benefit heart, hair, skin etc? What else? Thanks!
