I feel like I'm too skinny, I really need to gain 10-15 pounds. I have no eating disorders, it's just that I grew really fast and have always had a high metabolism. I'm like 6 feet tall and weigh a 130 pounds. It's really not good, but I keep trying to gain weight and it's not working. Any tips. I'd love to turn it into muscle and just have a little more meat on me.
I dont have an answer for you as i'm in the same boat. But your not the only one I'm 5'10, male and only weigh 115pounds. I gotta admit that its so annoying having to hear comments about being so thin. So much so, that i get self-conscious about wearing shorts and t-shirts... urgh eh?
I don't know how old you are, what you eat on an average day, or if you do any sport, but eating more, and more quality foods (lean protein, non-sugar carbs, healthy fats) and some weight training can help you gain weight, i.e. muscle.
I semi agree with Dexter.. why don't you post what you ate like today or yesterday for example, and write how much exercise (or even activity..like grocery shopping etc) you got. That will help us to have an idea of where your diet and exercise can be improved, if needed.
I agree with you that the BEST way to gain is by adding mostly muscle. There is only ONE (legal) way to add muscle and that's hard work.
Adding calories to your diet will gain numbers on the scale but it will be a soft ugly fat gain that you will not like for very long.
It's slow going but the best way to start is to join a gym and walk to the Equipment Room...TODAY!
eat peanut butter
Nuts
dried fruit
lots of milk
whole wheat breads (try to get high cals types..with like 12 grain or something)
Bagels
Brown rice, pasta
Veggies/fruit
Lean meats, chicken, fish
yogurt (not the low fat kind)
did i mention peanut butter?? Mmmm...o and make shure to treat urself to candy and treats every once in a while!!
I eat all of those things, it's like I can't gain weight. I'm under 18, not too much, but over 15. Since you can't give the exact age. This place is way too strict with things. Anyway, today I eat for lunch a piece of cake, and two tuna fish sandwhiches.
2 pieces of chicken, some french fries and brocoli for dinner.
I just don't know what to do anymore. If I exercise I lift weights with my arms and do 300 sit ups a day. I stopped running on the treadmill, because I felt it was making me loose more weight.
yah, cardio burns fat...well maybe do what bodybuilders do...they go into a bulk up stage...when they do no cardio, strength training and eat a sh** load of food. lol
o a lot of food. increase ur calorie intake by 500 daily unti u notice weight gains.im no expert, but it u look up "body building" on google, ull find soemthing...trust me. find somethin with Lee Hayward...he knows his sh**.

Why would 10-15 pounds be impossible? I gained more than 30 lbs in less than a year when I started training and eating properly. It's a hard work, and you need to be motivated.
SOmetimes people are "hyperthyroid" which means their metabolism is so fast that they burn off almost everything that they eat.(lucky fellas)hehe
No, it may be a rough ride for them though.
My husband wants to know how to gain weight on a "welfare" budget with 4 kids. He's 6'5 and weighs 169lbs and he's 32. He does weight lift, but he's taking it slow cause he just had kidney stone surgery. He needs a lot more calories per day, but we just don't have the finances for it, with 4 kids and one income, during the summer we've got 5 kids in our house, plus the two of us, there's just not enough groceries to go around.
It's become like a wolf pack, my oldest daughter seems to eat the most, more than any of the rest of us...and my husband seems to eat the least, we took his calories count for a couple days and it was under 2000, my daughter managed almost 3000 in a 24 hour period
I lost a lot of weight going through a stressful job situation. My doc says I should be at 136lbs. but instead I am at 123. Ick. I have had several blood tests and he says I'm within normal range on everything. But I am eatingand eating and I can't seem to gain anything back. I was at 145 before the job incident. I make Egg protein shakes in the morning loaded with soy milk, fresh blueberries, banana and etc.
I have an appetite and I have strength to work out. Only months ago I had the worst GERD. I seem to have developed a gluten intolerance for breads. I stopped coffee, chocolate and went down to one beer a week...if that. What I am curious about is Esophagus cancer. I still look real thin in my face and along my ribcage. I need to get further testing I guess. Is ice cream good to put on pounds?
I always eat ice cream, it doesn't work... I joined a body builder forum in hopes of getting some good advice.
They will tell you that you should increase your calorie intake by, for instance, consuming beef instead of chicken, or gradually increasing the amount of food you eat, and if you have 6-8 meals a day, you will eat much more. I don't think it's a rocket science. Hard training and proper nutrition are key.
Also you may be adviced to take certain drugs which can support muscle development. If I were you, I wouldn't risk my health because of quick muscle gains. You can do it slower but in a healthy way.
Thanks Dex.
During this new job,I would always eat the wrong foods or not at all and I think the GERD caused me to lose weight and my stomach constricted. I dunno. Sounds crazy. I have real bad allergies to and everytime I took an acid reducer, I was having symptoms from that too. It had to be one of the strangest times of my life. Looking back it seems so surreal now. Well, I will soon be laid off from my job, so maybe this will give me an opportunity to put this weight back on and keep working out. lol...although, I don't wanna be without a job for too long either. The jobs in Pennsylvania are slim. I want to go back to school for something, just need to figure out...what. It seems that the only jobs that are in demand are in the health care field. Know any good message boards with "jobs" as a main topic??? I have been checking out that Craiglist and that seems pretty cool.
