Not exactly. Fact of the matter is, this sweetner is mostly found in processed foods. The manufacturers of these foods would just find something else to put in their product, and it most likely wouldn't be healthy. If it is used to preserve food for the long shelf lives that are desireable, most likely it's not well broken down in our bodies, afterall.
It all boils down to avoiding processed foods, imho. Virtually all diets agree that whole, unrefined, minimally processed foods are best. Sadly, refined sugars and products are exceptionally cheap and very convenient, making them very popular.
