I take them LONG after the expiration date. Certainly something like ascorbic acid is good for DECADES if kept dry! Throwing them out benefits ONLY the manufacturers of the next bottle you buy!
Same goes for most prescription meds but there are some exceptions like nitrates and patches and anything volatile. Maybe some time-release meds should be treated more carefully.
But throwing out vitamins is almost certainly a waste of money.
