Smile Buddy System - Post here & Tell all!

Okay ...... Today I am getting back to exercising and watching my diet!

Anyone wanna join in and use the buddy system? Of course .. by being buddies on the internet, we have to be honest, and supportive, or there is no use to even starting this .... agreed?

Here's the deal:

We'll use this forum as sort of a diary. If you have something you need or want to tell, post it here ... and be honest! If you do extremely well, or if you fall off the wagon and eat a quart of cookies and cream, this is where you put it!

We don't have to reveal our weight (unless you want to), but we can let everyone know if we lost any weight .... or if we feel extremely good about ourselves for the progress we have achieved.

Remember .... we have to be supportive of each other .. so praise posted here is expected!

Me ..... I'm a 48 year old male, (though I live a somewhat younger lifestyle, with still having two small kids - 9 & 7) and I want to loose maybe 10 - 15 pounds, and get back to physical exercise. Just say I want to tone up and slim down a little. I'm a none smoker, very light drinker, and spend a lot of my work day at a desk on a computer (though I can get up and move around alot). I will not be able to post actual amounts of weight lose, as I do not own a scale. I was always told to not judge by a scale, go by the way your clothes fit, and the way you feel about yourself .... therefore, I threw mine away!

Any others want to join?
Come on ... we can do this!

Ok I’ll join. I’m 30 lbs overweight & here’s my plan to lose the weight:

1. Eliminate sugars from diet
2. Eliminate all starches from diet
3. Reduce fat intake
4. Drink lots of water
5. Take daily vitamins
6. Exercise five times a week

Welcome aboard falcon

Looks like you have a good plan .... just be careful and don't burn yourself out on the exercises. I think that is where I run into a problem sometimes ... I'll get so involved in my workouts, that I will break my routines in half (do certain body parts one day .. others the next) .. and before I know it, I'm exercising 6 days a week.

Again ... welcome aboard, with two of us now ... we have a "group"!

Dave

Talking

I am a college student and I am fearful of gaining weight while at college. Just this past weekend I came home and saw all my friends from high school and they are chunky now. Which makes me feel better because without knowning it, I've lost 5lbs while I was here. But they noticed that I had lost weight and that motivated me to get to the gym so I can REALLY lose some weight. Here are my stats: I am an 18 year old female, and I weigh about 150. My goal weight is 135-140. I am at the right weight for my height, which is 5'7"...but I want to feel better about myself.

Today I went to the gym and walked/ran on the tredmill for about 16 min then I went on the bikes for maybe 5 min. I also had 10lb weights and I was working on my arms. Then I went back on the tredmill for about 10 min. Is this a good excerise? Or should I be doing more weight lifting to get the fastest weight loss? I am actually clueless on what to do for losing weight fast. I'm glad this board is here!!!

Hi tianna ... and thank for joining up for our buddy system I've always felt when you have support, or someone keeping you motivated, it makes things alot easier.

I think you are approaching this routine and goal in the right manner. What I have always done is to do my arobic, or cardio if you will, exercises first. I use a stair climber here (because that is what I have) to get my heart rate up, and to get my blood flwoing good. I then do some stretching to warm up the muscles and to avoid injury to a muscle or a joint. After the stretching, I do my routine with my free weights .... some stretching afterwords to help keep the muscles from cramping.

It depends on what you want to achieve from the weights as to how much weight you use. To tone the muscle, use lighter weights and do more reps. To build the muscle, use more weight, and do as many reps as you can without injurying the muscle. Make sure you breath properly, and concentrate on your technique. This is very important.

One concern I had with your post was, you wanted to loose the weight real quick. Try not to loose weight to quickly. Make sure you eat properly, drink plenty of water, and the weight will come off. Also remember, if you are building muscle, the weight will not come off as quick, as muscle weighs more then fat. Just be sure to feed your body well, with all the exercise you are putting it through, it needs the energy.

I find when I really get into my routine, I tend to start eating a lot more then I normally do, because I am burning so much more fat and energy.

Good luck ... and again .. Welcome!
