Post low carbohydrate and sugar diet

Recently my dad has been notified by our family doctor that his level of carbohydrate and sugar in the blood is too high. He told my dad that he should start having a low carbohyrate and sugar diet

I would like to help my dad to plan a low carbohydrate and sugar daily diet but don't know how. please help.

Get a copy of "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution" or "Protein Power" by Dr. Michael Eades at your local bookstore or off the net. Cost for the paperback version of either book is about $5-$10. Both books cover the low carbohydrate diet in pretty good detail. You can also find out quite a bit of info on the net by just searching for those book titles or "Low Carb" on any good search engine such as google.com

What does a low carbohydrate diet involve? Basically just eliminating or really limiting ones intake of sugar (sugar is a form of carbohydrate by the way), breads, pasta, cereal, rice, corn (anything made from grain), potatoes, and most fruit. What do you eat? Meat, poultry, fish, seafood, eggs, cheese, lots of green vegetables, salads, nuts, etc. There is more to it, but that gives you an idea of what a low carbohydrate diet involves. It really helps to lower ones bloodsugar levels since virtually all carbohydrates consumed other than fiber end up in the bloodstream as glucose (bloodsugar).

And if one wants to consume more healthy carbohydrates, consider whole grains. Whole grains are just "grass" seeds found in nature. Seeds and nuts are good for you. They have the basic necessities for a beginning life.

These whole grains would be things like wheat berries, whole oats, brown rice, flax seed, millet, rye, and buckwheat etc. Whole grains are much different than refined grains. I grind mine up in my VitaMix, just before consuming (except for the millet). You can read about this on the internet - they are "night and day" different. Whole grains are even recommended for some people with diabetes. Kind of shocking, huh? But it's true.

Basically, my answer would be similar to Alan's except I rarely consume meat, and I eat lots of healthy whole grains. I suggest that one avoids all those junk foods, especially processed foods with all that sugar - things like pastries, cookies, crackers, cakes, ice cream, sodas, alcoholic beverages, candies, and white bread etc. When one eliminates the bad foods, the good foods remain.

If your dad's doctor recommended this diet then he should be able to help your dad plan a set of daily menus.
