Smile Daily Food Journal - January 9

Yesterday was a bit high in sugar and probably calories as well. I need to try a little harder today.

(calories, fat, protein)

B: 1 egg, 2 slices bacon, 2 slice ww toast, 1 tbsp. B&B, 6oz OJ (433, 17.5g, 12g)
S: glazed doughnut (220, 12g, 2g)
S: banana, yogurt (180, 1g, 6g)
L: pork chop in mushroom sauce, peas, smashed potato, diet Dr. Pepper (?)
S: popcorn (240 if I eat the whole bag, ?, ?)
D: 1c. chili, 1 slice RF American, 5 Ritz, 8oz milk (495, ?, ?)

Calories are probably pretty close to 2,000 today which is higher than I'd like, but I think lower than they have been during my gain so thats ok. Brought doughnuts for the office b/c I had a buy 1 dozen, get 1 free and figured I'd have one ;-D

Thumbs up

Hello, I'm still rooting for you. You did good. You can exercise the doughnut off. It was just one day. I eat 94% fat free micro popcorn and the calories are a lot lower, just make sure you get the butter flavor or...air popped popcorn with garlic powder and parmesan cheese is really good too. Keep up the good work. Hey, I just read last night that corn has some sort of chemical in it to help prevent colon cancer. I guess all starches aren't created equal.

No, all starches are definitely NOT created equal. You need some whole, unrefined, grains and legumes in your diet. They provide important vitamins and minerals. Sure, you don't need cupcakes and soda and all those other sweets, but you do need potatoes and brown rice and oats and barley and all that other gunk. =)

I'm not real worried about the doughnut. I skipped my banana (just wasn't real hungry after the doughnut). And I probably won't eat the whole bag of popcorn, I'll get tired of it before that. *lol*

Hmmm. I've got a question, maybe two.

Today I ate three strawberries, a nectarine, a glass of milk, 100 calories of artichoke hearts, half a cucumber, two roma tomatoes (plumb tomatoes) and about 200 calories of dressing.

That adds up to about 600 calories. Not nearly enough I understand, but I'm full! That's a lot more fruits and vegetables than I usually eat.

So here are my questions: First, is there really anything wrong with eating less than 1000 calories periodically? Second, how do vegans eat enough food to maintain the caloric needs? I just can't imagine eating 2-3 times what I ate today! (I'm not really much of a starch eater, with the exception of corn, I don't really like grains or roots)

Thoughts?

cross, I know you didn't ask me but I'll answer for me. I lost 30 lbs with strict calorie counting and control. I've hit my goal and am now maintaining. I lost the weight by eating 1200 calories a day, every single day for about 3 months. I used www.******.com to keep track of all the calories.

During that time, I got to see the reports that ****** generates. It breaks your progress down for you into cool charts and graphs. For those 3 months, although I never once went over 1200 a day, many times I was under 1200. It was anywhere from 900-1200. I'd say I ate less than 1000 at least 1-2 days a week average.

Now that I'm in a maintainance phase, I control calories different. I still use ****** everyday. But now I pay more attention to a couple day span. I stay at 1400 calories a day BUT if I go over one day to 1600 (sometimes I eat out or pig out ), then the next day I only eat 1200 to make up for that 200 extra the day before. Also, once I gain 2 lbs (which happened in December) I immediately go back to 1200 until it's gone.

I'm still working out the bugs but so far, so good.

Chelle, sounds good to me. Good luck.
