Post Non-dairy diet

Hi everyone,
Because of an injury, my cat bit me LOL, I was put on an Antibotic (cipro) that doesn't mix well with any dairy so I was very good about not eating dairy and I noticed I felt better, I had lost about 7 pounds in the 10 days I took the medicine(over the course of a year I have lost about 70 lbs, but I hadn't lost much in the last few months) Also, my skin cleared up and I no longer had loose stools ALL the time (sorry kinda gross). So when I went back for a check up on my hand from the cat bite, I talked to my doctor about a non-dairy diet, she informed me as long as I still eat foods rich in vitamins, and drink soy or rice milk a non dairy diet is fine. She added, that more people are trying non-dairy diets because of the hormones and antibotics that are given to cows to produce more and better milk.
I want to add that I do eat some meat, just not red meat and I am already a big fan of soy.

So, my question, Is anyone else trying this sort of diet?
My husband supports me and see's what great things this has done for me...but everyone else thinks I'm crazy!

I don't eat/drink much dairy. But, I wanted to respond because I just wanted to offer support to the way you want to do it. Don't worry what others think, even if they think you're crazy. People can lose weight on all kinds of different diets. If you like that one, it's somthing you can stick to, your doc thinks its ok and you feel better, more power to you for finding something that suits you. You must be doing something right to lose 70lbs. Congrats and good luck.

A non-dairy diet is great, but please take a good Calcium supplement with Magnesium and Vitamin D to help with absorption. And yes, Congratulations!

I've been vegan for about 5 years now, and while I abstain from eating all animal products including dairy, i've noticed by far all the benefits that come from eliminating dairy from my life the most. I no longer suffer from the debilitating symptoms of lactose intolerance (which include diarrhea and loose stools, gas, and irritability), I rarely if ever get colds or the flu, I never have bronchitis or any other mucus like illness. I also just *feel* better--it's amazing the difference. The fact of the matter is that I did become vegan for ethical reasons, and simply following such a cruelty free diet makes me feel better about myself and about my life. It's great to have others who give up dairy, even if they aren't vegan on purpose, because it does enlighten others and make people realize that it isn't unhealthy to give up dairy, and that makes people think. Which is good--we need to be critical of the world and culture we live in. So yes, dairy free diets are great and we should all follow them!

I'm a vegetarian but went dairy free awhile ago for a food elimanation test I was on. I felt great.Ii still have some now, but not as much as I used to and replace the milk on my cereal with soy milk etc.
