Question big eater but skinny

hello all,

im 5' 10" 125lbs 19yrs old.

I am very skinny. I eat alot of cheese, bread, pasta and chicken. I have been trying to put on weight and eat as big of helpings of food as i can. my sister is sometimes stunned at how much pasta i eat at dinner but no matter what I cannot put on any weight. I sometimes consume well over 1000 calories by lunch time and dinner is my biggest meal of the day. I am very inactive since i work on a computer all day and go straight back on the comp when i get home.

I have 2 questions, 1) am I doing myself more harm than good by eating alot of food and not being active? 2) why do you think i am not putting on weight and what should i do to gain weight?

Jordan,
I would suggest you to consult a dietician and follow his advices. I am naturally thin ever since I was 15 and my family and friends insisted that I take a high fat high volume diet with lot of calories. Whenever I raised concern, they laughed at my worried. After 20 years on a high fat diet, I am still underweight, but with coronary heart disease.

jordan,

It's your age and hormones. THey will allow you to eat whatever you want. Don;t force food though just to meet a number. As the decades roll by you will need less and less food and bad overeating habits will get you fatter and fatter and fatter.
Start lifting weights so that as you DO "fill out" it will be with mucle rather than fat.

In high school I could eat 3000 calories a day and stay slim and trim. Many years later if I tried that, I'd need a forklift to carry me around.

Enjoy being thin; it's healthy.

see there is my concern. is your coronary heart disease a result of your high fat diet? I would have thought that if you are not gaining weight then you are not doing your body any harm.

A steady high fat doet has a steady stream of fat going from gut to liver and out to cells for burning or storage. The fat is carried around by protein and cholesterol (lipoprotein.) With every blood pass this fat goes though the heart over and over til it's used up and then the next meal piles some more in.

So even if you are not depositing fat in your love handles a high fat diet can damage your heart. Skinny people can get heart disease.
