Re: How much is too much Protein?

I believe the maximum amount of protein intake is 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight, however this may increase for athletes, bodybuilders, etc.

Re: How much is too much Protein?

Typical protein intake should be your weight divided by 2.2 so that you get your weight in Kilograms. From there multiply 1.2-1.8 and that will be your protein intake. For those who are trying to lose bodyfat and sustain muscle should multiply by 1.8. Also, athletes and bodybuilders should multiply by 1.8 or at least eat 20-25% of the caloric intake. Eating too much protein can definitely be detrimental to one's health. It can be very hard on the liver because your liver needs to break down the amino acids. So taking too much can be bad. If you are curious where I got my information. I'm a certified trainer from 3 certifications and a Kinesiology degree from University of Southern California. Before I get any kind of disagreement, I must say that there are people who eat high protein diets and it works for them, but you have to realize that these people probably have liver damage or they might be on the diet for short periods of time such as bodybuilders. Also I might add that bodybuilding is one of the worst sports for your health so even though they look ripped and big, they are putting their body through a lot. Anyways i'm getting off topic now, but if you have any quesitons just post it.

Re: How much is too much Protein?

Hello, JoeJoe. I read your post about the formula for computing protein requirements. My own calculation came up to 95.4 or 96.5 g of protein daily. I read a web page that was recommended to me from the Exercise & Fitness Board that tells me, as a woman 50 yrs old, my protein requirement should be only 46.5. Can you tell me why there is a difference?

I get much of my protein from my diet, so I would not want to eat or drink an excess amount of supplementary protein. Would you please elaborate so I can have a better understanding of the correct dietary intake of protein?

Thank you.
