So last night...

I've been on a diet for the last couple of months, going pretty strong--but lately I've just been craving all of the unmentionable items that one is supposed to avoid. I know that one or two of these indulgences wouldn't kill me, but the thing is that I also know myself and I know if I let myself have a little or some, I'll keep going back for more so it's better to go cold turkey.

Anyway, yesterday I went to the gym in the morning, had some fruit and cereal for lunch, some more fruit and some quaker rice cakes throughout the day, two helpings of salad with some protein and some fruit for dinner, and some more fruit and a quaker rice cake later in the day. I think that's a pretty spread out day of food--yet at 12:00 I went on a major binge, and ate almost an entire bag of those caramel quaker rice quates!

I'm not worried about the calories, b/c I know that those in general are pretty healthy and low cal even if one consumes the bag, I'm more worried about the fact that I couldn't stop!! Is this the sign of bad things to come? What can I do when I'm in a situation like this? I really don't want to be one of those dieters that majorily binges and then restricts herself like crazy. Any advice?

Re: So last night...

Well, When on a diet, always endulge - in moderation, on occasion. you will leave yourself lacking something you falsly turn off to due to the diet, and it will crave and crave underneath your strong willpower.

Re: So last night...

It is more a sign that you havent done it enough. If You comletely deny yourself the Foods you crave the when It comes to having some you are more likely not going to be able to control yourself.

You Should let yourself have one "Forbidden Food" everyday. Just make sure it is a reasonable portion. IF you love Chocolate Bars...then have one a day if you must. Just count it as part of your daily intake. Many Chocolate bars have the same calories as an equally sized Granola bar or Protein Bar. set aside 200 Calories a day where you can eat whatever you want. IF the rest of your calories are from good healthy Items then you will do very well.

I beleive you need to cheat every now again but when you cheat at least let it be better than those styrpfoam cakes LOL. For me I would delve into a bag of veggie chips and hummous. Then I would turn that cheat into muscle with a heavy weight training and cardio session..Lisa
