Hey! I just have a quick question.. first off, i'm 15, female, 5'6, 118 lbs... i lift weights and have a pretty active lifestyle.. i'd like to know how many calories i should be consuming in a day.. because im very confused!
Per a metabolism calculator that I found on the web, about 2100 for moderately active to 2600 for extremely active. This is a well known site, but we are not allowed to mention its name.
I'll go a LITTLE less than that. I'd say 1800-2000 to maintain your weight, more to gain and less if you are trying to lose a few.
But these numbers are HIGHLY personal and each person really must find his own maintenance number.
Count faithfully for a month, take the average and see if you gained or lost. Once you find YOUR number it will serve you well for years. Unfortunaltely as we age, the number must be lowered and lowered and LOWERED, alas!
I also say around 2000. Since you are still a teenager you may need even more. It will be advisable to divide your intake into five or six meals making breakfast the most important one.
I would say the 2000 calories is a good figure. But eat wisely. Do watch your junk food and potato chips and those things. You can eat such wonderful healthy food within the 2000 calories range. I do not mean health food just not a lot of grease. I get pretzel rods for a snack and scrape the salt out of them. Maybe I am too much into nutrition but I feel so much better. You can sit down and have a banana split and blow 600 calories. Great Tuna sub or sandwich loaded with vegetables and low fat meat, apples and fruit and vegetables are just great. Raw carrots great snack. We eat unsalted peanuts (sparingly as I count each one of them) all the time to cut back on salt. Also use equal instead of sugar. Feel so much better. Just a couple of ideas. Just watch what you eat but above all enjoy every little bit of that youth. HAVE FUN.......HAVE FUN.....Ah to be young again......
