hi. we have a jar of shelled, roasted peanuts at work. i eat about a handful a day; however, i do not take the peanut out of the shell. i just eat the whole shell with the nut inside! i like it better this way. i figure the shell has some fiber in it that might be good for me as well. it's also a lot less messy if i just eat the shell. my question: could this be bad for my digestive tract? should i stop doing this and just eat the nut?? thank you.
Do you think it affects your digestive track in any ways out of the ordinary?
If not, then I would say it's ok but this brought back a memory from something I read on the Straight dope e-mail one day.I think it was that if there is a warning on something not to consume it or a certain part of it then don't.I seem to remember some type of nut shells being one of those things not to consume as it can cause a a bowl obstruction because the shells can not be digested or absorb water like soluble fiber should. So I would look that up online if I were you and check the labels next time.
Not only do peanuts taste better when eaten with the shell, but they fill you up, and clean the out of your intestines. You also shouldn't eat too many, otherwise you could possible end up with an obstructed colon.. and be aware of possible pesticides
