Is a juicer worth purchasing?

I was wondering what people here thought about juicers, and what they claim to do, such as raising a person's energy level, being more nutritious than just eating a fruit or vegetable, etc? Some juicers are cheaper, while others cost hundreds of dollars. Is it worth it to buy a more expensive one such as the Vitamix? I'd like to get one that doesn't have a really loud motor. Also, being able to put some whole fruits into the juicer, without having to slice the fruits, is nice.

Re: Is a juicer worth purchasing?

A lot of them are next to impossible to clean. Even if they are dishwasher safe, the pieces will probably fill the whole dishwasher.

Do you really want to spend 45 minutes cleaning out the juicer after one use?

Buy a blender instead and make smoothies. (They actually look similar to that vitamix one). I would go with an oster blender, my parents have one circa 1982 that is still blending good. Plus oster makes lots of replacement parts (new blades, seals, covers) so you can use it forever.

Re: Is a juicer worth purchasing?

We bought a juicer at Sam's Club and it just sits on our counter taking up space and collecting dust. It is a pain to clean, and you hardly get any juice!! It's going in the next yard sale.

Re: Is a juicer worth purchasing?

I didn't even bother to sell mine. I gave it away a couple of years ago. Like another poster said, cleaning it is a bi * tch. My $200 juicer had more parts than the space shuttle. And just try to get the strainer basket clean........... LOL

A blender really does make great smoothies and blenders are cheap.

Re: Is a juicer worth purchasing?

Juicers are a waste of money. IMHO.

Eat the fruits and vegetables instead and get all the nutritious healthy fiber.

Maybe a different story for someone with all his teeth removed or his jaw wired shut...God gave us teeth to chew with for a reason.
