Diet help??? (Gaining weight)

I am a small person and just had my gallbladder taken out last month. From feeling sick for months, my weight went from 115 down to 104. I get comments from people saying I look anorexic and from other people saying how jealous they are b/c I have 4 kids. I would like to gain a few pounds (5lbs or so) but I need some ideas on how to do it the healthy way. I am still on a very low fat diet b/c of the surgery. To much fat gives me stomach cramps, so I really watch the fat.

Also, I haven't worked out since last spring b/c I was always sick (from my galbladder). I will resume my workouts in Sept (when the kids go back to school).

I always hear about increasing your protein to gain healthy weight. lean meat (like turkey burgers) and hard boiled eggs. if you decide to start working out, I'd say to avoid too much cardio and work more of strengthening workouts.

Wish I could be more help.. good luck!

Re: Diet help??? (Gaining weight)

adding more protein to your diet would definitely help you build muscle when you start exercising again. if you're just trying to gain weight for the sake of gaining weight but want to avoid fats, maybe try overloading on carbs? your body will break the carbs down into sugars to use for energy and then try to store any excess sugars it can't burn off. im really not too sure if this logic works or not, i just know that i, along with thousands of other people, lost a lot of weight by cutting out carbs. maybe you could try loading up on pasta and rice dishes for a couple of weeks and see where that gets you.
