baby wont drink much milk - Diet & Nutrition Message Board

Can anyone give me some advice?
My baby is 6 months old and she wont drink much milk. I weaned her at 4 months as she was really hungry but would not take more than 4oz milk at a time - most of which she vomited back!

She eats solids great and will have anything - lots of veg, fish, fruit yogurt and potato. I sneak as much milk into her solids as possible, but she wont drink more than a couple of ounces of milk at a time. I find myself constantly battling her to get extra milk down and if i make her have more than she wants she sicks it back anyway.

My health visitors have told me she needs at least 23oz per day but she's having probably only 10!!

Has anyone been in a similar situation and are there any vitamins i can give her so i can stop worrying???

she needs the milk and fluids that go with it.make sure she drinks water.ask your doctor.I think that is pretty young not to be drinking some kinda milk

I rang the advice line today on the cow & gate tin (out of desperation!)
They seem to think that its because she's teething and sucking the bottle or cup hurts her gums. They recommended i try to give her either bonjela or calpol helf an hour before feeding her.

They also told me that eating 3/4oz of cheese is equivelent in calcium to 4oz of milk, so will try that too.

I gave her calpol before her night time feed tonight and she drank 8oz of milk without much struggle - so hopefully this is helping (fingers crossed).

Any more advice please reply!!!

At 6 months your baby's diet should be almost all milk. What kind of milk are you feeding her? breast milk or formula?

Formula milk now, i started on breast milk, but changed after about 1 month as i was planning to go back to work.

I spoke to my health visitor today and we went through my daughter's diet in detail - she says that her diet is fine without the milk during the day as she is well established on solids and has lots of cheese, yogurt and milk in her solids. I am still going to give her milk before bed and on waking. She also gave me a free-flow beaker and advised i try water if she prefers at mealtimes. Her weight gain is great and she weighs already 20lb so the health visitor said both milk and solid were not needed. I feel much happier now and Jasmine has been a lot happier and less sicky today- she has also had more wet nappies and her rash has gone so i feel she's getting more fluid.
