Girlfriend eats little

My Gf is 26 and I dont think she realizes shes got some eating disorder. shes gorgeous looking, almost 6 feet tall model type, but shes REALLY skinny.
I am trying to figure ways to get her eating more without her realizing that im trying to "feed" her. she doesn't throw up or anything but eats half of baby portions. Doctor said she had a really small stomach.

I realize that malnutrition can cause health problems now or later. If we decide to have a baby I dont think she can pull it off with her eating. Shes moody depressed and tired usually and eating not enough might be the problem. I don't know what to do really.

Re: Girlfriend eats little

My 18 year old daughter had the same problems as your girlfriend .. She chose to eat hardly anything for over a year and is 5ft 5" tall, weighed 7stones, lost her periods and suffered hair loss. I took her to the doctor, but she didnt listen and carried on doing just what she wanted to do and completely refused to take part in any counselling. It was an extremely difficult time ... BUT thank goodness things are just beginning to change .. What has happened is that her male friends are noticing that she isnt looking that great .. They are being very frank with her and saying "your boobs are disappearing" ... "Your bum has gone flat" "you look more like a 30 year old than an 18 year old" .... And do you know I think its working as over the last fortnight she has gained 5 pounds in weight and told me just yesterday that she is going to try her hardest to get to 8 stones. Anyway, you sound like a fantastic boyfriend and I reckon she is very lucky to have you by her side. It sounds to me as though its got to a point with your g/f where you should be seeking medical advice for her, possibly some psychotherapy, but I know its gonna be very very difficult for you to get her to admit that she has a problem in the first place, and I wish I could offer you more advice.

Re: Girlfriend eats little

wow what a lovely boyfriend you are to be so concerned. I dont have any advice as I havent been in a position such as yours but A friend fought an eating disorder for many many years and she has since commented that the most important part of her recovery was her partner's support and the fact that he never judged her, just loved her. talk to you doctor perhaps about support options and stratergies.

Re: Girlfriend eats little

It would be helpful if you knew her BMI. 18 is a little on the low side but still acceptable. Some people are naturally thin. I know a woman who is very thin and she has a great looking teenage son who is also thin.

But assuming that she does have a disorder, don't count on being able to fix it.
