Fibre

Looking for advice .. my bowel movements are very hard and infrequent at the moment following a period of illness and 2 operations. So I need to increase my fibre intake. I eat quite healthy and a typical days food for me would be :

Breakfast - Branflakes with sultanas
Lunch - Ham Salad Sandwich (on wholemeal bread)
Dinner - Grilled chicken or salmon with carrots, turnip and baked potato
Snacks - Banana, Apple, Yogurt, Biscuits

So what do you think - where could I increase my fibre or improve my overall diet?

Thks

Re: Fibre

Why don't you try making some stewed prunes in the morning, before you have your branflakes? I think about 6 prunes will do the trick. You can put them in a one quart pan with about 1/2 inch of water. Bring to a boil and then turn the burner down to low and simmer for about 2 or 3 minutes. I have never done this but my mother used to make this when I was a kid. It never failed to solve the problem of constipation. (Don't throw the water away.)

Re: Fibre

Thanks for the advice. The only prunes I could get was tinned ones, so I liquidised them and added a few spoonfuls to some natural yougurt. Really tasty - so will have the same every morning and see if it helps.
