I don't know... I'd probably just toss them and buy some more. They're not very expensive.
I keep whole flax seeds in my fridge, and grind them in small batches in my coffee bean grinder when I want to sprinkle ground flax on something (it's really good on oatmeal).
But I have noticed that they start to have an "off" taste once they've been in the fridge a few months. Not like they're rotten, exactly, but just sort of stale.
So if I don't eat them all in a month or two, I usually replace them, and that's what I'd advise you to do.
