Calorie packed snacks??

I can't eat. I've almost completely lost my appetite. And it's hard for me to eat sweets, so I can't eat those protein bar. I've started drinking Ensure Plus which is for people who want to maintain weight or gain weight. I drink 2 a day and used to be able to eat a bit of lunch, and eat dinner. Now, I'm not getting hungry. And when I eat I just feel full immediately after starting. My body wants the food, but I just can't eat it. Is there a small snack (because I don't like sweets and because I can't eat it) that is just calorie packed, with over 500 calories? I know this is not the way to go, but I can't keep dropping weight. I'm starting to get scared...

I know that I need to figure out why I'm not eating. But right now, I am only concerned about gaining weight.

Re: Calorie packed snacks??

Any sort of nut is a great source of calories. Dried fruit, also. The whites of hard-boiled eggs are a very easy source of protein. Still, calories take up space. The densest calorie source possible is pure oil, and even that is only 120 calories per tablespoon. (I doubt drinking oil would agree with you, don't do that!)

Ultimately, you need an answer and you need one now. Have you had any tests done? Any treatments tried? Certain GI or antiemetic medicines might increase your appetite.

I'd be surprised if a protein bar contains more sugar than Ensure Plus. The last time I looked at Ensure in the supermarket, the first ingredient listed was sugar. It's basically a sugar drink with vitamins disolved in it. It's not real food by any stretch of the imagination.

Would you get hungry if you stopped drinking Ensure? If you don't have a big appetite, you won't be able to eat anything as long as you're drinking Ensure. It will spoil your appetite for real food.

You might try getting some whole grain crackers and some kind of nut butter to spread on top.

Of course, what you really need is to see a doctor, the sooner the better.

Re: Calorie packed snacks??

Hope you can get to the bottom of your lack of appetite.
Peanut butter is a great choice. Cheeses can be a good choice too.

I lost my appetite also. I try to eat (force) 6 small meals a day. Favs are yogurt, peanut butter and jelly, fruit, grilled cheese. I had high calicum in my blood = loss of appiete and lithium I take can lead to loss of appetite. Get some blood work done and other tests. good luck to you

Re: Calorie packed snacks??

Really simple: I'm doing around 2400 calories a day (good caleries, no take aways etc).

I eat: Granary Bread, Pasta & Fruit Juice. Best way to put on weight is just eat more. It's hard at first, just push through.
