Actually a clay colored stool is one that is absent the brown/dark brown pigment caused by bilirubin other natural colors of a normal stool. It ends up looking like wet sand that you would find on a sea shore. Usually it is also surrounded in a light oily substance and /or mucus as well, but not necessarily. This is basically a symptom of liver impairment however, that can be temporary from a virus or in combination with other symptoms a very serious sign of illness. That is what a good diagnostician does is put all the symptoms together to come up with the best possible diagnosis. One symptom by itself usually means nothing since so many foods eaten today can cause discolorations that are harmless.
