Waking up with intestinal pain - Digestive Disorders Message Board

I have had Crohns ileitis for a good while. It is under decent control.

However, there is a pattern that worries me. I am asleep. Then intestinal
pain wakes me up. I take warm drinks and try to soothe the problem. The
pain is pretty intense. Usually after about 30 minutes the pain subsides.
When I wake up, the bowel movement is strained. It usually splurts out and
there is normally a 90-degree angle in the formation of the bowel movement.
However, many times the bowel movement is quite well-formed.

Any ideas , web sites, etc....

You know I read your post on another board. I have done some reading about Crohn's and I know it is Probably the worse bowel disorder you can have.

The thing about it is that it does cause malabsorption problems of many vital nutrients. And I thought that pain of the colon is in many cases caused by spasms or cramping that could result by lack of calcium and magnesium along w/ vitamin D for Calcium absorption.

The Best Magnesium and Calcium that I have found is the chelated type that is bonded to a protein amino acids -- gylcine and lycine( glycinate and lycinate). It was developed and patented by Albion Labs and is sold to many vitamin/ mineral companies that produce them for sale. I have used ones sold by Doctor's Best, Carlson, Solgar and Kal but there are other companies that make it. I don't really know if they are better than the aspartates or oratates but they work really well.

The literature says it is readily transmitted through the intestinal walls for use by the cells.
As you know magnesium comes in alot of forms -- the salts are used for laxatives like Milk of Magnesia, Epson Salts, Citrate of Magnesia. I have not found that the chelated types cause a laxative effect.

The best absorption is obtained taking it in divided doses 3 or 4 times daily so you can make really sure it does not cause loose stools.
