I thought the stomach can tolerate acid. And I've been on Prevacid for 2 weeks and prior to that 8 weeks (which should have healed anything) after which I went off of it for 2 weeks and then back on for 2 weeks. With all that Prevacid and an acid-free diet, why is my stomach showing redness? Also, if anyone knows, do they usually test for h pylori from the biopsy?
Hi again terri - I responded to your other post first. Anyway, the redness of the stomach could be long-standing so even use of PPIs may not relieve it. Yes, the stomach can tolerate acid (much better than the esophagus), but it can still become irritated from excessive acid. And yes, most docs will take biopsies to check for h pylori at the time of the endoscopy.
Keep us posted on your results,
