Upper GI Series test ?

I am having this test done on Thurs- what does this stuff that I have to drink taste like ? how long does it take ?

Surgeon said after I had my gallbladder out, the x-ray showed on the test, something abnormal, after all of my compliants a year later they are finally going to start checking into it...let's not rush it or nothing..

I hope they find what is causing my problem, but then again- rather not face another surgery that leaves me feeling worse than I did before.

thanks for any replies

Re: Upper GI Series test ?

I'm having an upper g-i tomorrow morning, it will be my 4th or 5th one I've lost track over the years. I had my gallbladder taken out 14 years ago, hard to believe that much time has passed.

I've found that the barium tastes different everytime I've had it. They usually mix it with something to make it taste like strawberry or chocalate. It looks like a milkshake but sadly it doesn't taste as good.

It doesn't taste all that bad. I mean I wouldn't volunteer to drink it but I can think of far nastier things to consume.)

Good luck with your test.

Antoinette

Re: Upper GI Series test ?

OK...... Let me first start off by saying I have a very sensitive gag reflex. I can't drink whole milk without gagging... ok? That **** was nasty this morning. I'm the biggest baby and it was gross. I only drank half of it b/c of how long it took me to drink it. LOL. The technicians and nurses were really great. They said lots of people act just like me and it just takes longer to get the test done. I hope you get some flavoring in your b/c they didn't have ANY flovor for me...... I tasted like the floride they give you in bubble gum flavor when you go to the dentist and have to have they mouth guard full of stuff on your teeth for 2 minutes. BUT you have to swallow that and about a cup and a half of it. After I finally got it down they took a picture of my tummy (they take on initial one to make sure you haven't swallowed any keys or anything. LOL) and they every 15 minutes (2 pictures for me) they the doc came in and did this thing called a flonograph or something that started with a 'flo' and it looks like an extra but a movie at the same time and she poked around on my tummy with this plastic thing that tickled and you could see all the fat (I'm not THAT fat) but you could see it all jiggling around, LOL) I thought it was pretty cool. then I had to lay on my side for a minute then back on my tummy they took one big picture of my tummy and intestine and then I went home. they said it would make me consipated but I pooped as soon and I got home. LOL sorry... anyways. seriously the only part bad is the junk you have to drink and the sooner you get it down the sooner you can go home. Hope it helps.
