Bile gastritis? - Digestive Disorders Message Board

My upper GI x-ray a few weeks ago showed reflux and gastritis. I had an endoscopy today. Apparently the doctor talked to me afterward but I don't remember that. The report says that I have bile gastritis. They also took biopsies, and later this week I go in for an ultrasound.

My question is about bile gastritis... What causes it, how is it treated, etc? Thanks.

Bile reflux can be part of GERD. What happens is that duodenal bile or pancreatic juice backs up in your stomach and then GERD will cause it to reflux. The drug Actigal may be used to thin the bile. Reglan may also be used but the severe cases may require a procedure where the bile flow is diverted. Bile reflux is also rare and there isn't a lot of information on the issue which doesn't help. Thanks... Leave it to me to come up with some sort of rare disorder! I didn't even think that there was anything really wrong with my stomach until my allergist said that I had GERD. Then my GP had me get an upper GI x-ray just to make sure there were no serious problems and that showed gastritis so he sent me to the gastro. And then he did the endoscopy and finds some crazy rare disorder. Most of what I've found on the internet says that it usually only happens in people who have had stomach surgery or an ulcer or something, and I've had neither. Oh well... ultrasound on Friday, then we'll see what happens from there.

The weird thing is that rare disorders aren't dicovered until many tests are run. Either your doctor is confident or I am missing something. I agree that from what I have read is tgat bile reflux is from surgery most of the time which you have not had. I would wonder if the first dx is correct. More tests are probably needed to confirm the diagnoses. Good luck!
