H.Pylori

Hello,

My close friend has been diagnosed with H.Pylori, a bacteria that is known to cause stomach ulcers. He's been having stomach problems for a while now. One thing that is becoming increasingly disturbing is that he keeps burping for about 45 mins after he is done eating. This is especially true when he eats at a restaurant. He does this irrespective of who's around him and says he cannot control it. My question is that can the bacteria be transmitted to another person when he burps say inside a closed car with the AC turned on? He's my close friend, but i'd not want my kids and family to catch the bacteria! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: H.Pylori

H pylori bacteria lives in the stomach.

This type bacteria is not airborne or transmitted by burping ---- many people have the bacteria without causing ulcers.

There have been over 400 intestinal bacteria Identified--- it is only a problem when they get out of balance like candida /yeast infections and other digestive problems that we don't even know about?? A round of just 1 antibiotic can cause problems for some people.

It is only under certain conditions that H pylori will cause ulcers. It is like gallbladder problems --- alot of people have stones but never have problems until the bile duct is blocked then it really hurts.

H pylori bacteria was disovered in 1982 by accident by--- Dr.Barry Marshall,MD in Perth, Australia but has only been accepted in the USA since 1997.
The current treatment here is to take 2 antibiotics and a Proton Pump Inhibitor(acid reducer) for a week and for some antibiotics two weeks. It causes about 85% of ulcers-- the rest is caused by errosion from simple thinks like asprin & NSAIDS, too much spicy food.

Some researchers think having H pylori has some purpose in a healthy person??

Peace---Harry

Re: H.Pylori

Hi..I was diagnosed with Hplyori this past march, and i am still having stomach/admoninal problems. I have this burning pain first under my breastbone, and now its traveled to thesides of my abdomen. Ive taken the prevpac and had an Upper GI that showed no ulcers. My doctor thinks I have IBS but i dont think so. Has anyone else had this same problem from getting Hplyori, and if so how did you get rid of it, its getting reallyannoying! Also how long did it take, cause its been about 4 months for me. I would appreciate any advice..im getting very frustrated!
thanks!

Re: H.Pylori

I was diagnosed with H Pylori in November of 2004. I went through 'the cure' and felt okay for a couple of months. This past week I'm feeling the pain that took me to the doctor in the first place. It's the burning sensation that starts in the stomach and seems to travel straight through to my back. I've lost more than 40 pounds, even tho I eat several small meals a day. I'm also curious about how long this is going to continue......

Re: H.Pylori

Harry: i had a question..it seems as though you know alot about digestive problems. I had h.pylori in march and it seems to have been eradicated. However now i am experiencing some admonial pains. They are like burning pains, sometimes traveling to my back. My doctor thinks its IBS, but i dont think so..do you think it could be the lack of good bacteria in my digestive system? I just dont knwo what it is..and im getting desperate..please help. THANKS!
