Hemmorhides Or Tumors ?

sOk, here is my deal. I get bouts of very bad constipation. I also have occassional bleeding after a bout with constipation that last a couple weeks, its usually a few drops of blood in the water and on the paper. I have had this for years on and off. 4 months ago I went to the doctor for a check up and he stuck his fingers down there as part of a routine check up and after that I started to get the bleeding again., Mind you i did not tell him of any complaints down there, this was just routine. He is a GI doc. so now, it really hurts down there and there is blood unless I keep my stools soft then there is no blood. after a bowel movement it hurts and burns to sit down, I decided to put my finger there yesterday with some prep h to lube, and it almost felt like I had 2 annuses. I mean, I inserted my finger and it was blocked on one corner of the anus by these 3 pea like balls there and man they hurt like hell when I push on them. Today its very itchy. I called that same doctor and the nurse read his report of the anal exam from 4 months ago and it said "no masses or tumors"-by the way, I asked her what he was doing when he stuck his fingers in there, was it a rectal exam or was he feeling my prostrate, what was the purpose? she said he was trying to reach in to touch some stoole to see if there was blood in my stoole, but he couldnt find any stoole.
Well, my question is, when you feel these pea like painful lumps on the rim and about 1/2 inch up the rectum, how do you know if it s a hemmorhide or a tumor?

Re: Hemmorhides Or Tumors ?

Hi kobeck,

If you went to a GI (Gastroenterologist) dr., he should have given you a colonoscopy (lower scope). That procedure, lets them look, take pics, and if needed, take biopsys. They can also cut off any polyps if they find any. This will tell you (after the biopsies) if it is just hemmorhoids or cancer or precancerour polyps. You need to tell him you are bleeding, if you did not. Everyone needs a colonoscopy at least 1 time every 10 yr. or every 5 yr.

I hope you get your gastro. to further investigate.

Take care. Wannabe

Re: Hemmorhides Or Tumors ?

WANNABE:
This is what I was afraid of, scripted , general answers like yours. I appreciate your concern, but please understand something. First, a colonoscopie is not a lower scope but its an entire view of the colon. a lower scope that you refer to is a sigmoidoscopie. Secondly, a doctor will NEVER biopsie a hemmorhide. Hemmorhides that around the annus are within vie of the doctors eyes and he can easily feel them and any trained GI will tell the difference between a suspicious mass and a hemmorhide. My question was related to anal hemmorhides and not colon polyps. As far as a colonoscopie, I had one 4.5 years ago that was normal. Back then the protocal was one per 10 years if results were normal, now they say one per 5 years. As far as the blood, I told the doctor 5 years ago I was bleeding, lol....if you read my post you will see this is a lifelong condition. My simple question was this: How can someone tell the difference between a tumor and those pea shapes lumps clustered around the anus, that hurt and bleed occassionally.

Re: Hemmorhides Or Tumors ?

Kobeck,

First, you do not appreciate my concern, or you would not be so rude and pompous!

By colonoscopy and lower scope, I meant, it is used to scope the lower part of your or anyones digestive system. I also did not mean to imply a gasto dr. would biopsy a hemmorhoid. But that he would cut out any polyps and biopsy them. I know they know the difference between the 2. I know what a hemmorhoid feels like, I have them. Also, if you are having any colon/rectal problems, it stands to reason that that procedure would be done, to be sure you are all checked out! It seems any smart Gastro would do that!

If it is a lifelong condition, why are you just now going to get it looked at?!

You do not have to worry, from now on, I will let the other "smart" people answer your posts.

Good luck, anyway, with others giving you the "correct" answers. May your attitude improve with your health.

Wannabe
