Right lower abdomen dull pain - Digestive Disorders Message Board

First of all I have a thyroid problem which causes intestinal problems as well. I have been having a dull pain in my lower right abdomen. Not constipated, but have a lot of gas.

The ultrasound my ovaries inside and out, and couldn't find anything. When she used the probe inside to check my ovaries, it hurt when moving the probe on the right side. They think it is my colon.

Any ideas what this might be.

I have been plagued with pain in my lower right quadrant for years; 11 years to be exact. I've been to the doc a few times thinking I had appendicitis (though the pain wasn't severe). It has come and gone through the years; I haven't had it investigated really thoroughly, except that I did have a barium enema about 9 years ago, they told me that I had "possible diverticulosis" on the right side, which is supposedly more unusual than on the left side. I have feelings of constipation and heaviness in the lower right quadrant, then sometimes it feels tender when pressed on, but my docs have said that it wasn't super tender and there was no "rebound tenderness" (pain when the abdomen is pressed then quickly released) so it wasn't anything significant. I also sometimes feel the need to have a bowel movement and feel better for a little while after I do have a bm. I don't know what it is, I have been given lots of possibilities: mild Crohn's disease (though unlikely because I don't have other Crohn's symptoms), endometriosis, adhesions on my bowel from two c-sections, and perhaps symptoms from the diverticulosis. The reason that the finding of the diverticula wasn't "Aha!" for the gastroenterologist was that many people have diverticula and most don't have any symptoms, those who do tend to be older (I'm now 31), but it could still be that. I wasn't particularly interested in having a diagnostic laparoscopy "just to look around" so I'm not really taking any action on it right now, except to slightly up my intake of fiber. What kind of pain do you have? I have a pain on the right side near my navel. It drives me crazy!! It feels like a stabbing pain, then sometimes it burns and other days its a stinging, needle pricking pain. Very wierd. I have went to one herbal dr. who said it is my descending colon and I have food intolerance to certain foods that causes pain my pain when it is digested. I have been trying to watch what I eat - maybe you need to keep a food menu and write down the days it hurts - that's when I found it was the fatty foods and chocolate. Hope that will help.

I would suggest seeing a gastrointerologist. I have Crohn's Disease and my symptoms began as lower right quadrant pain. After all the female parts were determined to be ok I was sent to a GI who did a CT scan, colonoscopy and a small bowel follow through x-ray. It was found that I had thickening of the Terminal Ileum which is the most common place for Crohn's to be found. There are many other things that could be causing this but a GI doc is probably the best next step in finding out what the problem is.

Well, I think my problem was an impacted colon. Another name totally constipated from being hypothyroid. So, I have increased my fiber and the pain has eased quite a bit. Although it is still tender when pressed.This pain was on the right side of my lower abdomen. just above the pelvic bone. I didn't think the colon was there, but guess it is.

When the thyroid is out of wack you can get all these stupid IBS symptoms, with lots of gas.
