Sore throat from stomach acid - Digestive Disorders Message Board

I have had a sore throat for 4 months due to stomach acid coming up my esophogas. I went to the doctor a month ago and he prescribed prilosec OTC. My throat has improved, but I still have difficulty swallowing. When I swallow, I still have saliva in my throat.

Does anyone have any advice to get rid of this? I am becoming concerned this is not going to go away.

Hello Kevinia....You might need an Upper Endoscopy so that an Gastroenetrologist can actually "see" how your esophagus appears and whether or not there is an ulcer in the area due to too much acid. If there is an ulcer in the area, then something stronger such as Protonix might be more beeficial to take as well as avioding acid foods such as citrus and spices as well as too much coffee. I also find that Aloe Vera Gel to be soothing internally and d glycerated licorice as well.

You could try elevating the head of your bed 3 or 4 inches ---when you sleep to prevent stomach acid that flows up your throat at night.
And don't eat anything at least 3 hours before going to bed!!
Barrygood's suggestions are good to avoid acidic food & drink for awhile.
