Hida Scan Results....

Well, I just got the results of my Hida Scan ---and the ejection fraction came back at 0%!!!!, yup 0%!! So, I will definitely be getting my gallbladder taken out soon. Anyone else have theirs come back at 0%??
I hope this will solve some of my problems I have been having.....I hope..I hope...

So, how long does this type of surgery take anyways? What are the pros and cons of it---any insight greatly appreciated!!!

schao

Re: Hida Scan Results....

schao,
In some places in the USA gallbladder laproscopic surgery is done and you are sent home the same day . Some places still keep you overnight. But, since your GB empting is down to 0% -- you don't have any choice but to have it removed. It can become infected and then it may be life threatening.

The pros are you have no pain and evenually you can eat fatty food again w/o hurting and walking the floor at night!!

The cons are -- your body has no control of release of bile since your GB is gone. Some people produce too much bile and have bile salts diarrhea -- it happens in about 5% of gallbladder removals. -- You may have to take medication that absorbs the bile before it reaches the colon and produces diarrhea.

Some people don't produce enough bile and their fat digestion is not very good -- you may have to take a supplement that contains oxbile or bile salts with some high greasy/ fatty meals but not with every meal.

I have read about some people that have the GB removal and still have pain caused unknown-- maybe nerve damage during surgery-- but this is extremly low and rear --

My advice is to get the best surgeon that you can find --One that has done alot of GB removal surgeries and is very experienced.

I ask the surgeon that removed my gallbladder 9 years ago-- how many he had done -- he said between 650 and 700- That is what he said--- honest.

I wish you well~~~Harry

Re: Hida Scan Results....

Thank you for your replies. My gastro doctor referred me to a very good surgeon and I trust his judgement. I have my consultation appt. next Wednesday and can hopefully have the surgery very soon after that. I sure do hope and pray that this will solve at least some of my issues.

Socagrl: In regards to the back pain--how does yours feel? Mine is a bad ache in my low back/buttocks and makes my legs ache as well. It gets worse at night time. I've had an xray, 2 mri's, and a pet scan on my whole back and they cant find anything.

Thanks again,
schao
