can probiotics cause wind / gas

i've already posted about horrible wind in my stomach and now i've noticed that whenever i miss my probiotic pill i feel better. i know probiotics are supposed to stop bloating but could it be caused by them?
i'm taking holland & barrett acidophilus with pectin every evening which contains
lactobacilus acidophilus
lactobacilus bifidus
lactobacilus brevis
lactobacilus bulgaricus
lactobacilus salivarius
can any of those or probiotics in general cause bloting and gas? almost every day i used to feel like there's a baloon in my upper stomach, i had horrible pressure in my chest, absolutely no apetite and feeling that my stomach would burst. it felt like i need a good burp but the air would just stuck somewhere and won't come up. did anyone experience this. should i stop taking them or does my body need time to adjust to them? any input will be appreciated.

I have heard before that they can cause gas if you're not used to them, but it seems like you should be by now?

Re: can probiotics cause wind / gas

doesn't look like that cause i feel like they're inflating me with air! and i thought that they work in intestines only, but i never get gas or bloating in my lower abdomen, it's all in my stomach or somewhere between stomach and intestines. is that possible? and another thing is that i can't burp when i'm that bloated while usually i can do that.

Re: can probiotics cause wind / gas

Hi Sunday

I bought some probiotics from the my health food shop, the naturalist and my gastro doctor told me that they can cause wind and gurgling noises in your stomach. He said a feeling of fullness can happen with some people.

I had to stop taking them because i have crohn's and the wind was making my crohn's worse.

So yes it can cause wind and fullness.

Re: can probiotics cause wind / gas

thanks for your reply, that's exactly what was happening to me including strange noises in my stomach and fullness. i stopped taking them couple days ago as well and hope things will get better soon though i still have wind and these funny noises, especially after drinking any liquids.

Re: can probiotics cause wind / gas

You can buy probiotics in different strengths, so maybe if you wanted to carry on taking them try a lower strength one and see how you go on with them.

The wind and noises will stop once they get out of your system. it took me about a week for things to calm down.

Probiotics can be good for a persons system but i think its a case of finding the right ones to suit.

Personally i gave up on them as any i tried made my illness worse.

Re: can probiotics cause wind / gas

that bloating was so bad that i'm too scared to try any other brand. i even threw away all the yogurt i had in the fridge! actually i'm not even sure that i need them cause i don't have any bowel problems like constipation or bloating, i just started taking them because i saw them on half price offer and knew they're supposed to be good to you. now i don't want to touch anything that has anything probiotic in it...
