Mercaptopurine - Anyone try this? - Digestive Disorders Message Board

hey all -

I was recently diagnosed with Crohn's and due to non-responsivesness to EntoCort my doctor has put me on Mercaptopurine - or 6-MP. he prescribed it about a week ago. Problem is I am extremely afraid to start taking this. It is a chemotherapy drug that is very potent. I was wondering if anyone has ever been on this and how did they do on this. i know that every body reactly differently but I still would like to hear what others have to say about this drug.

My son has been on 6 mp for autoimmune hepatitis since december 05.Just make sure that they do periodic metabolite tests to make sure the levels dont become to high.My sons were in the toic level for a couple of months and had to keep decreasing his dose.Now they are in safe range again and his liver enzymes have been normal since taking it.I am glad to see him on a lower dose of steroids since this drug was started.I havent noticed any side effects from 6 mp, it was steroids that were horrible.Hope this helps you some!
