Question Duodentitis problems

Hi,

I am 27, male, am (besides this) very healthy, I go to the gym, keep in shape, etc. but have had stomach problems for probably 2 or 3 years now. Typically this would only happen once a month or so, and almost immediately after dinner. I would get very sick to my stomach. It felt like I had tons of liquid in my stomach, plus my stomach would grind and grind. It would normally result in my throwing-up to make it feel better, and then everything would be okay again. This went on for a while and I actually thought it was normal (blaming it on food poisoning or just eating too much). After a while, people I know told me that this ISN'T normal and I need to go to the doctor. After about a month of tests and so forth, they diagnosed me with Duodenitis. The doctors told me that this isn't anything serious and they put me on Prilosec for a month. After that, they had me switch over to Ranitidine for another couple months. This seemed to work fairly well and it seemed like my "life" was back. I was actually awed at the fact that I could eat and not have to worry about the after-effects. About a week ago, the problems came back. I am still on the Ranitidine and I dont know why this is happening again. I am very confused at this point. I do not know ANYONE with this and can't find much about it on the internet. I am wondering if this is something I am going to have to live with for the rest of my life. Are there certain foods that trigger this? Stuff I should avoid? I am so clueless about this. Is is common to have episodes even while taking meds? If there is anyone else out there that is going through the same thing, or has/had Duodenitis, I would appreciate greatly hearing from you.

Take care,
Kevin

Unhappy

I to have some what of the simliar problem. I have Ulcertive COlitis for 15 years but along with this, I have developed intermented Nausea over the last 1 and 1/2, I was dx with Doudenitis, years ago but never had any problems. But the nausea just comes out of the blue, I could be sitting there watching a movie and all off a sudden get his with the nausea, I very really vomit anything up, I just go through theses phases of retching over the sink. I wish something would come up because then I would feel better. We have played with all my medications for the Colitis thinking it was one of them but, the nausea still stuck around. THe last few weeks it has gotten worse to the point I am scared to eat becuase I have no clue what is going to get me sick. IT has not sunck me into a bout of depression, were I end up sleeping all day, because If i am sleeping I can not feel sick
I am getting to the end of my rope here. I have tried multiple medications for the nausea and nothing really seems to be working at all

With mine it typically occurs within an hour after eating and lasts as long as it takes for me to throw up. It is really wierd because there is so much liquid built up in my stomach when this happens. I can push on my stomach with my hand and hear the liquid swishing. Very strange. Another thing I noticed is the excessive growling that my stomach would to, especially after eating. Normally I get sick when I eat after not being very hungry. I too was at the point where I was afraid to eat in fear of getting sick. Since then I have been on Prilosec and Ranitidine. Both seem to be working for me, but I did have a bad spell while using the Ranitidine. Not sure if it was flu related or what, but my doctor put me back on Prilosec which has worked wonders. My big question now is when do I no longer need this medication? How will I know when it is gone, and will it reoccur later on down the road. There is very little information about Duodenitis on the web and I am lost here.

Hi Kevin,
You most certainly need to avoid fatty foods.
And spicy foods. You may GERD like I have. The acid goes up into my esophagus and causes all kinds of problems.

Yeah, this was actually the first thing they suspected when I went to the doctors the first time. In addition to the numerous ultrasounds that I had to get, all of which were clean, I also had to get an Upper GI done. This was to test for reflux. That test also was inconclusive (they didnt see any reflux). At this point, 6 months later, I am starting to wonder if that only meant that I didnt have reflux at that particular time (when I was taking the test), and that I might be prone to getting it at certain times, as you indicated, whenever I eat something that isn't good for people with GERD, such as fatty foods. The thing is that I rarely ever get heartburn. I have read that people with GERD have problems with heartburn... So I am not really sure. Just to update my status, I was recenty put back on prilosec because I had another episode while on the Ranitidine. While back on the Prilosec, it happened yet again, so he gave me Reglan which is supposed to help with digestion. Just this week, I quite taking the Prilosec and have relied on this Reglan. Now I phasing myself of the Reglan to see what happens.. I have also eliminated all caffiene, because I suspected this was a trigger to some of my problems.. I guess I will see what happens. I am also eating healthier.. Fatty foods might have been a trigger also. Thanks for the reply!

Kevin
