Pain under left breast and rib cage,,,could this be gas related?
I keep getting a achy pain feeling right under my left brest, almost into the rib cage area and upper stomach...Could this possibly be intestional gas related...I keep belching alot and it almost feels like gas pains but it is so high up I can't imagine having trapped gas there. Nothing seems to relieve it. SO scared it was a heart attack, but don't have any other symptons. I currently take prevacid but it doesn't help....very scary feeling being so close to my heart..Thx for the info.

I could be, have you seen your doctor? I have had a burning in my chest, I went to the doctor, he prescribed Axid, I took that for 3 weeks, helped a little but the burning came back. Now I am on Nexium and all is ok so far. You should visit the doctor and see what other medicines he can prescribe!
Just went to the doctor today actually. I diagnosed myself. I feel exactly what you are feeling and I looked it up on the internet. Its an ulcer. Doctor prescribed these pills called Lozac and Im suppose to take those for a month.
Good luck

hi my name is emma i am 22. i have more or less the same problem you describe.i have a dull achy feeling under my left rib cage on & off everyday basically.& sometimes it feels as though mym left breast is achy too,but i think it is under my breast which is sore.party of tyhe stomach is under the left rib cage so i reckon it is definitey related to the stomach in some kind of way.i read on these boards about someone else who had these symptoms too....and they had a colonoscopy & found out they had an ulcer...& thats what was causing the discomfort.my left ribs r sometimes slightly sore when i press them too.

I think that was me Stigmata666 was talking about. The ulcer was found in the splenic flexure of my colon, basically that means where the colon bends to go downwards towards the rectum. I didn't have pain under my breast at all though.

Hi. I came to these boards looking for some clues as to what could be causing my chest pain (left side only) and came across this heading and corresponding messeges.
One thing I would like to ask about here is the kind of chest pain being experienced. I don't want to put words into your mouths so I'll leave what I'm feeling out (at least for now).
I wonder if someone could tell me about the severity or "what it feels like" in greater detail, and when you usually experience it and its duration.

Hi. I have the same pain you are takling about, but it is on my right side as well as my left. Some days it is just my right side, some days my left and some days both. Could be gas, an ulcer or some other GI problem, but I haven't gone to a specialist and have just been living with this for over a year now.

Also do you experience any other conditions?
Thanks for your input.
Hi there,
Like you I came to these boards to get some answers on this issue. I am new to the heartburn/GI stuff (last couple weeks). My doc told me to use Pepcid AC, which has worked for the burning, but I'm left with what feels like muscle soreness in my chest area and also this weird pain under my left breast. For me, the pain under the breast is not steady, but periodic, and it feels like a sharp gas-type pain. Woke me up the night before last because it was so strong; I had to readjust how I was laying and it subsided after a few minutes.
Is this all really related?? I'm thinking it must be because I'm perfectly healthy otherwise. Does back pain and muscle soreness in the upper back and chest area go hand-in-hand with heartburn/reflux?? I'm perplexed by this.
Re: Pain under left breast and rib cage,,,could this be gas related?
hey, I get the same thing, but occasionally. I get pain in my stomach too and pain right under my left breast. I also get pains in my back left side.. I dont know if this is all related. I was on protonix for acid reflux, but Im still getting these problems. I took Protonix because i had a lump in my throat, that went away when I took the meds. Is it dangerous if you dont treat an ulcer.

I have a pain under my breast on the right side.Been there for a yr now, been thru numerous test with no answers yet.My pain is there 24/7 it feels like a gnawing ,sometimes achy pain which from time to time can be more intense.
Re: Pain under left breast and rib cage,,,could this be gas related?
Yes it can be dangerous if a ulcer is left untreated. It can bleed and cause anemia,or the ulcer can perforate and cause a hole in the stomach.Or there can be an obstruction of the passage of the food thru your stomach.Or you could bleed to death if not caught in time.
Re: Pain under left breast and rib cage,,,could this be gas related?
I have had on and off pain under my left breast and I have had an x-ray and I think an mri on that side or it might of been a ct scan and nothing showed up, I have ibs so it could be gas but reading this scares me. should I look further into this? It has been about 2 years now. thanks

Re: Pain under left breast and rib cage,,,could this be gas related?
It is not a horrible pain but sometimes I get a spasm there too! I went to see a bone doctor a while back and he said it could be a piched nerve. It is about 2 times a month and it last up to 2 days at the most, It is more like an achey pain not real sharp, But if I bend certain ways it hurts more, It's like it is real tender when it does hurt. Re: Pain under left breast and rib cage,,,could this be gas related?
A really long time ago I was skateboarding and I hit my sternim the middle of my ribs and bruised them and cracked it in a small place I never went to the doc for it because I didn't think they could do anything but later about 3 years after I had x-rays and it showed where my rib had been injured, It is not the same place as the pain but my bone doc said it could be a nerve, Also my left side of my ribs sticks out farther than the right when I lay on my back. Sometimes when I have gotten bad gas My chest will hurt. I don't know the cause of the pain but I assume it might be caused from my injury long ago but I do have ibs so I don't know. I was just concerned about the ulcer. What do you think? thanks so much
Carly

Re: Pain under left breast and rib cage,,,could this be gas related?
Hey, sounds like you have a Gaulbladder problem. No need to worry though, can be easily fixed with medication or surgery. I will have mine taken out pretty soon, and I hear you will feel great afterwards. Hope you get to feeling better.
Re: Pain under left breast and rib cage,,,could this be gas related?
I don't usually get heartburn, When I eat spicy then I do but I rarely eat spicy food. It is not a burning pain. Actually it is weird it is on and off sometimes it gets real sore and other times I can go a month without any pain.
I looked up gallbladder stuff and I don't think I have any of those symptoms, Besides I can't have surgery I am going back to college soon. What kind of test do they do to see if it is your gallbladder?
Thanks for the help Carly
