Post Colonoscopy/EGD Symptoms
I am wondering if anyone could shed any light on this... After being diagnosed with iron-deficiency anemia at 23, I had an EGD/colonoscopy last Tuesday with the lovely phospho-soda prep. I made sure everyone who came in contact with me knew that I didn't want to be "sleepy", I wanted to be "asleep" during the procedure. I believe they used propofol, fentanyl, and versed, and gave it to me twice because I was "wiggling around" during the procedures. After 45 minutes in recovery, the nurse finally woke me up. Things looked good colon-wise, my gastro did take a few biopsies of the duodenum. He did not talk to me as I was still out, and my mom does not ask as detailed questions as I would have. I read my chart when I was getting dressed and he noted something about a small hiatial hernia and a blood vessel on the surface of the colon. We have an appointment in a few weeks to go over the results and see how the iron supplements have helped my blood counts. Prior to the procedures, he mentioned doing a capsule endoscopy for the small intestine if the EGD and colonosopy were negative.
Anyways, I am feeling very nauseous and sick to my stomach. When I eat solid foods--though I have been avoiding them, I experience loose stools and diarrhea. I feel most comfortable sticking to bland foods like crackers, animal crackers, etc. and sticking to a lot of the clear fluids I stocked up on for the prep, esp. Gatorade to prevent any dehydration. I finally called the doc's office on Thursday, and one of his associates called me back, said that this is an unusual symptom post-procedure. He attributes it to the anesthetics or the gas used to inflate the digestive system, and told me to take Pepto Bismol caplets and Immodium PRN, and to call on Monday if I am not feeling better. Now it is Saturday evening, and I was hoping to feel drastically better, and I am not. What could this be? Has anyone else has problems with this?
Thanks for your help!
