Getting sick after drinking alcohol - consistantly

Happens almost every time, some nights worse than others.

Last weekend I had 3 beers. I quit drinking around midnight because my stomach started to feel uncomfortable, I didn't start really feeling sick until 3-4am. It wasn't quite bad enough to vomit though, it just kept me awake. I don't get it because by that time what little alchol I had should've been out of my system.

A couple months ago I had 5 or 6 drinks, again stopping around midnight because of discomfort, started feeling bad around 5am, started vomiting at 6, and puked once every hour until 10:30. I strained so hard once I gave myself a nosebleed. I didn't even drink enough to get a buzz... It doesn't seem to make a difference if it's beer or mixed drinks, the results are the same.

I only drink about once or twice a month. I do enjoy drinking though and being social, the nightlife, etc.

It's rediculous that I can't even get the slightest bit tipsy w/out the fear of getting violently ill. It's possible that my stomach has always been a little weak when it comes to alcohol, but when I was younger I would have to get pretty drunk before I got sick. I'm 22 now.

I have no other known allergies or stomach problems.

Is it possible that I have an ulcer or gastritis? What else could be causing this?

Yeast, maybe? Yeast in GIT can cause various kinds of alcohol intolerance.

Could I get sick from yeast when drinking a Rum&Coke?

Are you making sure to eat before or while you are drinking? Besides..it's no great loss anyway.

I have a really low (stomach) tolerance for alcohol as well. much of it stems from feeling bloated and gassy -- but if you think about it, much of what you're drinking contains either cabonation (beer, mixers with soda), or a very large amount of sugar (margarita, long island ice tea, anything with 'sour mix'), or acid (from OJ, pinapple, lime or cranberry juice). This might give some explaination - but probably not releif since I've covered just about every drink you could get.

My suggestion is to isolate the problem that's causing the most trouble... So, the first 'trial' don't drink anything with carbonation... if that doesn't help, next time, stear clear of sugar (try diet coke) -- and so on.

While many people might just say to avoid the alcohol altogether, I know that at this age (i'm 24 and an ex-bartender), it's really a pleasant option.

I don't know if this helps, but it's something that I've been paying close attention to. Oddly enough, red wine seems to work out Ok for me.. But on a night out, I usually go with a vodka tonic, to avoid the sugar... but I still can only get through 2 or 3.

Maybe it is "Gilbert Syndrome"? That would mean your body takes alcohol pretty hard, takes forever to get it out of your system. A lot of people with this also have trouble fighting infections. Nothing serious, just annoying.
