Post Nausea, Vomiting, Loss of Appetite

Wow, just read through a bunch your posts. It's saddening to hear of so many people with health problems. I wish you all the best.
My problem is this: I vomit bile every morning. I've always felt morning sick but the past few months I have been vomiting bile right after I get out of bed. I have great difficulty eating food. The thought of food makes me sick. It takes me a good 45 mins just to eat a small bowl of Rice Krispies in the morning. I've been plagued with stomach problems my whole life. I also have a sharp, cramp like pain in my upper left side right under my lower rib. The doctor diagnosed me with Lactose intolerance when I was 10. I am NOT Lactose intolerant. I can eat dairy and have no problems. I have always had this pain in my upper left side. I've beared the pain for 11 years now. Anywho I saw the doctor about the morning sickness, vomiting, and I told him I always worry so he put me on ant-acid and anti-anxiety. These are having no affect. I know I have a major problem with something in my digestive system. I'm going back to my doctor on Thursday but he is useless. I've see specialists when I was 10, done ultrasound and barium. Anyone out there have any idea what my problem is? I need to get on with my life. Thanks a bunch.

Oh Ken,
I am so sorry to hear that you have to go through this- nobody should have to. I really don't have anything intelligent to say as far as what may be causing all of this, but what I can urge you to do is never give up on finding a doctor who is willing to really listen to you and explore EVERY possibility. There is something out there that will help you, and I hope you find it soon. Good luck and keep us updated.

Hi,
You need to find you a good GI doctor and have them exam you. There is somthing going on with your GI tract. Have they checked out your gallbladder?

Hi, Ken. So sorry to hear of your troubles. You need to find a new doctor who will be willing to order various GI tests to determine what's wrong. Sometimes it takes persistence and several visits to other docs, but hang in there. You will finally find the right person and get the treatment you need. Try to find a good GI doc or internist who understands the GI system.

Good luck to you and keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks guys, but what's GI?
No I haven't considered my gallbladder being the problem.

GI = gastro-intestinal tract, which means everything from the esophagus to the colon.

Has your doctor done a liver panel?

Any time bile is mentioned it usually means a problem with the liver, gallbladder, cholesterol, digestive enzymes [mostly the lipases that break down fat] or copper-zinc metabolism. There are probably several other possibilities.

Here's some information on gallbladder problems; suggest you also look up liver diseases:

I would defenitly get yur gallbladder/liver checked and yes, ditch the dr u have now and go to a GI specialist. That is finally where i am at this point, someday im going to get to the specialist as i was really upset at the runarounds i had with our primary physician. drink lots of fluids if u are vomitting, just small sips at a time, also i would recommend taking Ginger-it really does work, ive taken it myself, just get to the health foods store and get some capsules, since it is an herb it doesnt have ne adverse side effects, I am taking 550mg twice a day-thinking about mroe when i feel worse-but it has helped and i strongly recommend it. hope u feel better soon and let us know what happens!

I saw my doctor. I have a stomach/duodenum x-ray scheduled for Sept 19. That's the earliest I can have it. I'm going to start taking digestive enzymes as so many of you seem to recommend them.

I am so exited to find this board- I always thought my syptoms were quirky and weird but its awesome to find im not the only one going through this!

Anyways- I have the exact problem you have. Before the doctors figured out what it was and found the right combination of medicine, I vomited bile every morning. I used to joke saying I had morning sickness (I was 14), because I would be voilently ill in the AM. I remeber I'd go to school and my mom would have to come in like half an hour later to get me because I was vomiting bial. I still have my bad mornings with the bial. The doctor prescribed Zofran, a high power nausea drug usualy used for cancer patients to me. I swear, that drug has saved my life. No kidding, I take one and in less than 20 mins I'm feel better. I call it the wonder drug. I couldn't eat as well, with my symptoms of throwing up and not eating it took a long time to convince the doctors it wasnt anorexia, but instead the bial had backed up into my stomach thus causing nausia but also filling my stomach so I wasnt hungrey at all. These symptoms got to bad I almost died, I lost nearly 15 lbs in two weeks. Right now I'm on propulsid and reglan. Try different meds, I know I tried nexium and previcid and they didn't work at all.
