Post Hey Toccoah, how are you doing?

Well, I used the anti-spasmodic medication, but I can't take it during the day because it makes me sleepy and my eyes blurry. I haven't had too much pain or anything, but I can just tell that my digestive system is on the edge and it would just take one wrong bit of food. I think I am going to lay off any of the digestive enzymes until I think my stomach is feeling better. Unfortunately, I have to go to party on Saturday and I just hope I don't get alot of questions about not eating or having any "drinks"!

Question

Hello Foodie,
Could you please tell me what anti-spasmodic medication you've been taking? Also why, & is it helping? Your answers would be so much appreciated.
Thanks Sandy

I don't remember the name of the medication, but I am taking it to limit the pain I had due to indigestion. I am not sure that it is working. That way I won't have the bad pain after I eat. I think it was just the next thing that the GI could think to give me. He still doubts that my gall bladder is at the root of my problem. I have been eating better but I am not too sure that isn't because I have made some personal changes. I am not eating any dairy, red meat, spicy food, coffee, soda, fatty food, chocolate, or refined sugar. I am also keeping a regimented eating schedule. We'll see...

Foodie,
Thankyou for your reply. The reason I aked you is b/c I'm was taking an anitspasm med. "Librax" that didn't help then I tried "NuLev" that didn't help either..now I was given "Robinul" but,I haven't started it yet. I was on Nexium, but I think it made me worse, now I have to start Previcid. I have similar symptoms to yours. Can you be more specific as to where you feel your discomfort. Mine is pretty much constant, but mostly after eating. I have significant discomfort & pain in the mid sternum, upper epigastric area (top of the stomach) at the bottom of the esopagus. Almost like it's hard for the food to pass through...are these symptoms similar to yours???

Post

It all started exactly 4 weeks ago. We were visiting family in Oregon and close to bedtime I got really nauseated and I ended staying up. I never threw up. Well, the next day I just ate some toast and tea and took it easy. On Sunday we had to drive back to California and on the ride home I noticed I had the sensation of something caught in my throat. I was really tired, shaky and hot. So I avoided food because I had no appetite and when I did eat, I felt crampy, bloated and gasy. I had pain in my back and the throat irritation was still there. I went to my doctor and they ordered blood tests, barium swallow and a urinalysis. Everything came back normal. An ENT looked down my throat and could find nothing. Everytime I tried to eat I just wanted to get sick. Things were getting worse, I had numbing and tingling and my heart was racing. Eventually my doc sent me to an endocrinologist who determined I had hypothyroidism. That explained all the the weird symptoms but not the digestive problems. I eventually had a endoscopy and an ultrasound. My biopsy from the scope noted no infection or ulceration and I have not received my results from my ultrasound. I have to say that my stomach feels better, but I suspect that the Aciphex is actually giving me heartburn. I still have pain under my left and right ribcage, back pain and sternum. But I have been really careful about what I am eating.
