H.Pylori question - Digestive Disorders Message Board

In September of this year I tested positive for the H.Pylori through a blood test. Is anyone else familiar with testing for it after you've had the intial postive blood test? My physcian told me that I could not have another blood test to check for it, for some reason, but they could do the breath test or endoscopy. Does this make sense to anyone else? For the most part I feel so much better except recently I've started having a mild sick feeling in my stomach, not sure what that is about. Can anyone else relate to this? Thanks!

The blood test if positive or negative will remain that way for a long time---maybe a year. So, another blood test would also be positive meaning you have a H.pylori infection. 85 % of ulcers (Peptic) are caused by Hp infections. After you take the antibiotic/ anti acid treatment, it's best to get a breath test to determine if the bacteria is erradicated or not ----even after the treatment your blood test will be positive for some length of time and a breath test is usually given to make sure you're cured.

During a scope test---The Doctor will take a biopsy of your area in your stomach that has the infection---- very effective but also very costly. Sometimes the Doc may miss the infected area. You can also have it in the Duodenum and I don't think they can exam that area as well as the stomach.

I was having stomach cramping, diarrhea and some nausea and went in for a possible stomach ulcer. Through the blood test they found the bacteria. I'm not sure of other symptoms, but these were the ones I was having at the time. Hope this helps a little. Linda
