Which PPI and AnitBiotics? - Digestive Disorders Message Board

I have heartburn that has been helped in the past by using Previcid for 4 weeks, yet within days of going off it the heartburn comes back. I recently read that about 85% of peptic ulcers are caused by H. pylori bacteria.
The treatment is to take 2 antibiotics and a PPI for 2 weeks to cure this.
Does anybody know which antibiotics are generally used, and is Nexium more effective than Previcid?

There is a blood test and a breath test for H.pylori bacteria. 85 % of stomach ulcers are caused by this type bacteria. You really need to be tested before taking the treatment. The antibiotics are pretty strong!!! Can cause gastritis or Yeast infections.

As you know the 2 weeks on 2 antibiotics and a PPI. It's sold by prescription only at the Drug stores. The antibiotics are Amoxicillin and I think Biaxin along with Prilosec Or Privacid both PPIs.

Just happened to see your post on h.pylori i was diagnosed with this problem couple months ago.I have acid reflux,and was having a gnawing pain underneath my right breastbone.They put me on amoxicillin and clarthromycin and prevacid for 2 weeks.You might want to be careful about the tests they recommend to diagnose it.I had blood tests done and it didnt show up i had it ,till they did and endoscopy.Good luck

It was 2 antibiotics and prevacid dont remember the dosages.It was in a box called prevpac.if i remember correctly.
