I went to the doctor last week and had a stool sample. They only tested for giardia which was negative. They did not test for any other parasites or blood. I started getting a loose movement in the mornings 7 weeks ago. The rest of the day would be okay but crampy.
I am seeing a GI specialist this week. My doctor took blood tests which were normal as far as my liver and no anemia, I hope there is no blood in my stool. I can't see any and imagine if I had been bleding it would show up on my bloodwork.
I am on a very bland diet, rice, toast, applesauce, a little chicken, and drinking a lot of water to prevent dehydration and cannot stop the diarrhea. My doctor said to not take Immodium because he doesn't want to stop it if there are parasites or any toxicity...to let it come out. But I am scared....7 weeks is a long time.
I am scared of cancer or some other bowel disease. Has anyone else had diarrhea this long? I hope it's IBS and nothing more but any feedback would be appreciated.
Believe me, although 7 weeks is not good it's nothing compared to me. I've had watery diahrea for at least 7 or 8 months, almost every day. I've also had nausea, a generally ill feeling all over, headaches, and a problem with a very fast heart rate. I was recently seen at The Mayo Clinic and diagnosed with Orthostatic Intolerance for the heart rate issue, and Celiac Disease causing the diahrea. You may want to be tested for Celiac, it can cause those symptoms you are describing. It starts with a simple blood test, then if that comes back abnormal, a small intestine biopsy. Good luck with your doc appointments!
Hi there. Could also be gall bladder disease causing the yellow stools/diarrhea along with the cramping. Do you get pains shortly after eating even the bland stuff? Ask your doctor about testing the gall bladder even though your tests may come back normal. Other typical gall bladder symptoms are diarrhea, upper right quadrant pain even radiating to the back, and nausea.
Hi Katie and thanks for responding. I had a cat scan recently and it didn't show gallstones but you never know, that was 7 months ago. In a few days I will see Gi dr. and hopefully he will order a sonogram to make sure and every other test necessary. It is so scary and disheartening that no matter what I do, I still have diarrhea. I wonder how long the body can take this before collapsing. I am so frustrated and scared Thanks for listening and writing back.
